Children: (Richard and Maria did not have children; however, Richard had at least one stepdaughter from marriage to Almira Nostrand. Nostrand is Almira's married name from her first marriage. Her maiden name is unknown.)

Cypress Hills Cemetery, NY, Lot 54. (There is a biography of Richard in Port & Biog. Rec. Queens Co. 1896, p. 801. He married first to Maria H. Robbins (b. 13 August 1832, d. 3 May 1884, bur. Cypress Hills Cemetery, NY, Lot 54) on 11 February 1855, Manhasset, NY by Rev. James Demarest (second to): Almira Nostrand (b. May 1841, NY) abt 1896

Children:
(Richard and Maria did not have children; however, Richard had at least one stepdaughter from marriage to Almira Nostrand. Nostrand is Almira's married name from her first marriage. Her maiden name is unknown.) (stepdaughter) Annie Nostrand, b. October 1867, NY.  Annie had a son, Jessie B. Nostrand, b. May 1894, Washington (parents both b. NY) who was in her custody at the time of the 1900 US Census.

Van Wicklen, age 42, farmer with wife, Ann E., 37, and the following children: Richard, 16, Wm McKey, 13, Jacob, 10, Sarah, 7, Phebe, 6, Lewis, 4, and Margaret, 7 months. Also listed in this household are Jacob Van Wicklin, 26, male, black and Sarah Van Wicklin, 16, female, black. Could the latter two individuals be black servants or slaves of Garret Van Wicklin?

1860 US Census for Jamaica, Queens, NY lists Garret Van Wicklen, 50, farmer, with Ann E. Van Wicklen, 49, and William, 23, Elizabeth, 18, Phebe, 16, Louis, 12, and Margaret A., 10. All b. NY

Hempstead, Queens, NY lists Richard Van Wicklen, 28, boatman, with wife, Maria Van Wicklen, 25, in household of Benjamin Mott, 45, boatman and his children Benjamin Mott, 14, Stephen Mott, 13, Sarah Mott, 11, and Adelaide R. Mott, 9. All b. NY Also in household is Hannah Treadwell, 20, servant.

1870 US Census for N. Hempstead, Queens, NY lists Garrett Van Wicklen, 67, farmer, with wife, Ann E., 59, keeping house, son, Lewis, 22, farmer, and daughter, Margaret, 18, at home. All are b. NY.

1880 US Census for District 3, Town of N. Hempstead, Queens, NY lists Richard Van Wicklen, head, 45, b. NY (NY, NY), works for Oyster Planter, with wife, Maria, 44, b. NY (NY, NY), keeps house, and mother-in-law, Charlotte Robbins, at home.
